Class Note 上課筆記:

1. Trolley ／ Cart ：看圖就知二者很相近
Trolley   : 除可當手推車外，也可當連結電車的車箱，及媽媽買菜的”小拉車“
Cart :像賣場中的手推車

2.  bride / groom  ; bridesmaid / best man

3. contagious / infectious : 這二個字我再去查後有深入的發現，二者都可指生病的傳染（見下）
＊Contagious :   指人(動物）跟人(動物）的傳染。 (Contagious is defined as "capable of being transmitted from individual to individual"。Contagious diseases 指flu, colds, strep throat(喉炎）人對人間的“接觸”傳染（你可以記contact >> conta.gious)  人在接觸到有人咳嗽過的物品時會得contagious diseases
＊Infectious : 指因發炎（病菌）的感染 （Infectious is defined as " caused by or capable of being communicated by infection.")。 Infectious microbe travels through the air after someone sneezes or coughs.  （病菌透過空氣傳播，沒有直接接觸到受感染物）

Leadership Styles 20120815

今天中油的英文課是以領導力為主題，結合角色扮演活動(Role Play) 及James Cameron(按這裡） 在TED的演講中關於領導的部份（看14‘20”的部分）。同學們今天用英語討論了
1。領導者要如何給指令 How leaders should give instruction?
2。期望的領導者及遵循者的互動模式。The expected interaction model between leaders and the followers.
3。如果重做一次這個活動如何做得更好？How to do the task better? >> I am glad the learners discussed about  1) the differences between leaders giving specific details ONLY v.s. the leaders also provide project goal.  2) The followers prefer a pre-discussion in communicating the goal, direction, concept and expectation.
4。今日創意 Creative bones from the learners.  One of the leader indicated he modified the goal given by the instructor and produced a even BETTER product.

Jane Fonda 珍芳達-人生的第三部曲

(TED螢幕有個  show transcript, 按下去有各種語言的口稿, 神奇的是, 找一句口稿按下去, 影片就會跳到那一句, 好好利用, 現在學英語越來越容易)

今天大家神奇的把三張A4的文章讀完了, 以同學的程度能如此, 可以說是比棒還棒. 很高興大家有如此進步.  這篇講稿學習到的重點有:
1. 用簡單的字也可說出有力的話
" Picasso -- It takes a long time to become young." 
" Everything you have in life can be taken from you except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation."
"As my muscle weakened, my writing became stronger.  As I slowly lost my speech, I gained my voice.  As I diminished, I grew.  As I lost so much, I finallystarted to find myself."

2. 聽長篇英語談話時, 首先要有這個主題的中心思想. 當講者用其他舉例來支持論點時, 可以不用那樣仔細聽,(除非整篇理解度己在70%以上)這樣會較沒有壓力.

3. 好的講者會用簡單的字來表達理論, 如Jane Fonda在描述一般的人生階段用了 " the arch "--有始有落,  而她對人生階段的看法反而是" the staircase" - 步步高升. 她也把人生最後一個階段稱 為 "the third act" . 初學者不要被這些字嚇到, 因為字典上查到的意思,跟文章連不起來. 就把它當個名詞就好.

4.Entrophy (熵) 是一個查了字典也看不太懂的字, 像這種就不用太理它, 還是以捉住整篇文意為主.  熵是在熱力學測量動能的用字, 熵也用來代表失序有序的現象.(看不懂吧, 沒關係).. 反正 "負熵" 越多越好, 越年輕,越健康,氧自由基越少 , 相反的"正熵" 越多...就越不好,,就像講者說的, decline and decay..
